If you’re considering a move to South Carolina’s Golden Corner, or just daydreaming about life by the water, let’s take a closer look at Keowee Key, The Upstate’s premier waterfront community.
Situated on a peninsula of Lake Keowee, this community is a slice of paradise with a side of luxury.
Living in Keowee Key is like having your own all-access pass to the good life. This 1,500-acre retreat offers just about everything you could want—starting with:
The Keowee Key Golf Course
You know, it’s not every day you get to walk out your front door to go tee off on a course designed by George Cobb, the same mind behind Augusta’s Par 3 Course—or is it?
In Keowee Key, that’s just your regular Thursday morning.
Keowee Key’s 18-hole golf course, designed by George Cobb and revamped by Richard Mandell, stretches across a beautiful swath of our community, offering not just challenging play but also some fantastic views of Lake Keowee and the Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance. And thanks to Richard Mandell’s magic touch in 2006, the fairways are pristine and the greens are gorgeous.
So if you’re looking to improve your handicap or want to enjoy a leisurely game in a truly breathtaking setting, this course has something for everyone.
Tennis/Pickleball Courts
PickleBall or tennis more your speed? With 14 courts at your disposal, you can play all year round—no sweat.
The surfaces here are well-maintained, and ready for everything from a friendly match to tournament play. As a USTA club, Keowee Key hosts events that bring in folks from all over, which is a fantastic way to meet other players and up your game.
It’s worth mentioning that our local PickleBall community is thriving—it’s fast-paced, social, and a great workout. It’s easy to see why it’s catching on so quickly!
Whether you’re already a pro or just getting into this racket for the first time, there’s a spot ready and waiting for you to swing, serve, and have a ball.
Boating
Let’s not forget about the boating—whether you own a boat or need to rent, there are five community docks and 324 slips waiting for you.
Don’t own a boat? No worries! The rental options around Lake Keowee are plentiful, and our boating facilities include everything from canoe and kayak rentals to jet skis and pontoon boats.
Each dock is equipped with all the necessities, so whether you’re up fishing at dawn or a sunset cruiser, all you need to think about is enjoying the water. (And with the crystal-clear waters around here, you’ll want to make the most of every splash!)
Other Community Amenities
In Keowee Key, the fun doesn’t pause when you step off the court or dock. This place has the kind of amenities that make every day feel like a vacation.
Let’s start with the pools—yes, plural! There are both indoor and outdoor options:
- The indoor pool is a lifesaver during the cooler months or when you just want to escape the sun for a bit. It’s heated, so the water’s always just right.
- The outdoor pools are where the action is in the summer, great for lounging, splashing around with the kids, or swimming a few laps under the sunny South Carolina sky.
Then there’s the fitness center, and calling it “state-of-the-art” might even be an understatement. It’s decked out with all the latest equipment—cardio machines, weights, you name it. They offer a variety of classes too. Whether you’re into yoga, pilates, spinning, or something a bit more high-intensity, there’s a class to get your heart pumping and spirits lifted. And it’s not just about physical health—it’s a great way to meet folks around here. Everyone’s friendly and eager to bring newcomers into the fold.
For those who prefer their exercise with a view, the miles of scenic trails will be right up your alley. These trails wind through the community and along the shoreline, offering peaceful views of Lake Keowee and the surrounding forest. Great for morning jogs, walks, or bike rides.
Now, let’s talk about the recent upgrades to The Club. They’ve really outdone themselves. The place has always been nice, but now it’s a real showstopper with modern decor, cozy seating areas, and even better views of the lake.
The Club is the perfect spot to unwind after a day of activities. It’s just right for chilling out or catching up with friends in a setting that’s laid-back, but still a touch classy. In the Bar, Bar Terrace, patio, and Cascades areas of The Club at Keowee Key, the dress code is club casual:
- Dress jeans work great here but steer clear of holey jeans, jean shorts, cutoffs, and tank tops.
- Denim is a no-go in the Overlook and Vista rooms unless there is a special event that indicates otherwise. Men should sport country club attire: slacks, tailored Bermuda shorts, sport shirts, or dressy non-collared shirts. Jackets aren’t a must, but are welcome for special occasions. Women can wear dresses, skirts, slacks, tailored Bermuda shorts, or elegant blouses and shells.
- Remember, no exercise gear or swimwear around the club, and hats or caps are permitted only in the bar and patio areas.
- No rubber, plastic, or flip flops in the dining areas. Dress sandals are OK when the weather is warm.
The menu features plenty of tasty options that hit the spot after a day of fun. The food is great, and the atmosphere is even better.
Plus, it’s always nice to dine where everybody knows your name, and if they don’t yet, they will soon!

Tip: For anyone not used to rural or semi-rural driving, the biggest thing to watch for isn’t the road itself but the wildlife. Deer can be a common sight in the woods surrounding Lake Keowee, especially around dawn and dusk, so keep your eyes peeled.
We don’t often get heavy snow around Lake Keowee, but when we do, local crews are on top of it, salting and clearing major roads quickly. Icy conditions can still happen, especially early in the morning or late at night. If it’s frosty out, just take it slow.
